OLE! This is one Sopa Especial!

Have you ever been to Austin, Texas?
If not, book a trip now.
There is a restaurant called Gueros
that has the tastiest Tortilla Soup.

Plus Great Vintage Clothing Shops,
quirky boutiques,
(believe me that is saying a lot)
and world class Music Festivals.
It's like Brooklyn Southwest.

if you have never had Tortilla Soup
it is a lot more especial
than it sounds,

 it is seriously delicious!

I was craving some the other day,
and with Gueros nowhere near...
I figured I'd make it myself.
First time.

Here is the recipe I followed
by Pioneer Woman.
My hero.

Have always wanted to try to create this
and serve at a party, salad bar style.

child labor?

best part is the toppings

I splash a little of Chipotle Tabasco sauce
on top at the end.
This sauce is awesome on almost everything.

It would be a fun recipe to try with your budding sous chefs
(i.e. kids old enough to handle a knife properly)
as there is a fair amount of dicing and slicing.

I think this classic Mexican soup
will quickly become one of your go-to comfort foods.
Go for it.

buen appetite!

I've never been to Austin though I hear it's become a more reasonably priced enclave for Californians. I have had tortilla soup and I love it. Haven't made it myself, though...there are just too many great places out here to get it!

Oooh I want to come to your place for dinner! That soup looks so tasty! It's exactly my kind of food. I once lived near an awesome little cafe (sadly closed down a few years ago) that served Taco Soup. It was so good. It was to die for! This soup reminds me of that. So thanks for sharing the link to the recipe. I will try this one!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

So very nice to meet you Abby.
First I wanted to husband and I went to highschool and attended the same church with Jerome Oklahoma...any relation...
May God Bless you for volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house....My daughter had cancer as a child and she got it again at 32 and spread her wings to heaven on Oct 23, 2009 at the age of 33. She was an artist...anything and everything she did was in art can draw a picture and noone knows what you have said but you get that nightmare out...please if you have any to them about having art class, giving art journals...drawing to was a big part of not only my daughters life but my sons as we all walked through this with her.

Hi Abby - I love your site and what you're doing. Wanted to shoot you an email, but can't find a way to do so. THEN I decided to follow you on Facebook or Twitter to see if we could connect that way, but there's no link to do that either. HELP! How can I send you a private note?

I love Tortilla soup ! I used to make it with more interesting ingredients but Buenos Aires is not the best place to find Mexican ingredients.
