"FAVORITE MEAL EVER"

WOW

"FAVORITE MEAL EVER"

that is what my husband said
while eating dinner the other night.

WOW

I cook a lot.

A LOT.

He does not throw that "fave meal" around lightly.

Knowing we were going to have a huge snowstorm
which would strand me at home,
I went to the new Fairway Market
here in Stamford,
list in hand for
three classic recipe's
ingredients.

how lovely are these sterling napkin rings I found on eBay?

I collect old things engraved 'Nellie'
that's the name of our boat

~back to the recipe~

This is the first
of the trilogy
of uber classic dishes.

Coq au Vin
(translates to 'cock in wine' hello!)

Flipping through cookbooks,
considering this fabulously french dish,
I knew immediately that Jeff would dig it,
he loves the main ingredients.

Bacon
Wine

Really, who doesn't?

ah italian bacon...
the house is smelling great
as the snow is falling

ummmm.... pork candy

 raw chicken,
never a pretty picture.

(NOTE: next time I will make it with only thighs,
the breasts dried out, the wings were a waste of space
and the drumsticks were just not as good as the thighs)

Cheddar is bored
he wants to play in the snow

freshy, fresh ingredients

cognac and brandy are the same thing
just come for different regions,
like champagne and sparkling wine

Lookin Good!

Check out the recipe HERE

BTW did not include mushrooms
 I am allergic.

Floated a plain baked potato
(which was nuked)
right in the bowl,
basically because I forgot
 to boil the yukons
in time to make mashed.
Was distracted as
I immediately started on the next dish,
which I will share with you in a couple days

I think
 Jeff would suggest
 both you and I
 make this for dinner
this weekend.

Bon Appetit!

One question ... what time is dinner?
Your photos are gorgeous, I'm sure the meal was too. When my dh wants chicken he usually gets the Colonel.:)
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. My daddy used to subscribe to Nat'l Geographic, it's one of the first publications I can remember reading.

That looks delicious! I love Coq au Vin, but I've never made it myself, and now I'm wondering why I haven't!

We used to go to a French restaurant in Canada that made the most wonderful Coq au Vin. To die for.

The napkin rings are fabulous!

Wow! You get my vote for best food post. Your photos had me drooling. I never can take photos while I cook, so knowing what a challenge it is I raise my wine glass to you.
Thanks, Abby.

I can bring some favorite wine to accompany that lovely meal. I also use thighs which are economical and never seem to dry...
yummy.

Abby - I obviously live near you - haven't checked out the new Fairway yet - hear it's fabulous. Coincidentally I made boeuf bourguignon two nights ago - but coq au vin is obviously another favorite. I usually include white meat but my husband, who only likes dark, would be thrilled if I made it with just thighs. I'll be checking out your recipe. Thanks!

Sweetie you and I are cut from the same cloth!!! We (Hubby and I) are great cooks and cook all the time!!
We only want fresh ingredients (organic) if possible. We never go out to eat b/c our food is so much better than what we get out. With the price of gas we haven't been to the coast in years.
I am so happy you stopped by and left a comment!! Do please come back and become a follower and I am going to look for your follow button to keep track of your blog!!!!
Happy to have met you, Fern

My husband would think he died and went to heaven if I ever made something like this at home. (I'm veg, he's not so he never gets meals like this, poor guy.) That's exciting about your lodge. I can't wait to see it!

Ummmm, that all looks so yummy. How awful to be allergic to mushrooms, one of my favorite thing on earth!
