Those Who Live In Paper Houses Shouldn't Shoot Spit Balls?!

Last year my Christmas theme was putz
Wanted to recreate friends and family's homes in ornament form
for my annual Christmas present.
I didn't 'develop' the grand Putz Village that I had envisioned as
individually they took way too long to make..., some houses were much harder than others,
and hey, I am only one person.
My favorite creation was my brother's house, my rendition of his old converted barn in Silvermine, CT, that took me about three days to construct (image above).

This is a paper replica of our friend Wayne's store FLWoods up in Marblehead, Mass.
Check out those Marblehead greens in the window

Here is the store during the day.
I cut a hole in the 'floor' so I could place the whole house over a Christmas strand light bulb to illuminate right on the tree.
That's when this stuff comes to life.
Click here for directions on how to make your own.
If you start now, who knows, maybe you can do your whole block!
You can also pick up some pre-made ones here.
Speaking of paper walls, I thought these were very cute decorating ideas and probably easier to execute than building a whole darn house.
My theme for our 2009 Christmas Open House is going to be Tyrolean/Swiss/Gorsuch.
Hopefully a little easier than being a home builder.
Do you pick a theme for the holidays every year?

Hey abby, thanks so much for the comment. :)

So your houses are adorable! My dad made us a little Christmas village for under our Christmas tree. We each have our own house, and there is a store, a fire station, a police station, and some other things. :) He makes them out of balsa wood, and then paints them up all pretty. I'll have to do a blog post about them soon. :) Thanks for the inspiration! :)

You are one talented tootsie! Those houses look very time consuming. With great patience, you have created beautiful pieces of art. Congratulations! :)

Oh how those little houses take my back to being a child! My dad set up a little village like that (store bought, not hand made houses) every Christmas when I was young. I loved to sit and look at it at night when it was lit up. You've inspired me to create my own!

I have to say, Abby, I've become a bit of a scrooge at holiday time. For the past 21 or so years, I've usually been on a sexual assault nurse examiner and, as luck would have it, I've been in the ER, doing rape cases, much of the Christmas season. My sons are all adults, 38, 27, and 25 - but they still like the holiday decorations. I never did themes but I have some heirloom things - beautiful needlwork, etc, I created over the years. Maybe this year, now that I've retired, I'll make the place festive!
